WALRUS EATING BALONEY / SYNOPSIS
Synopsis.. A film with almost no spoken communication. Two deaf brothers and John, who is dying of Alzheimer's, steal their way through the Arizona desert, headed for Miami (FL) but wind up in Miami (AZ.)
Artistic Statement.. An attempt to make a film that forces the audience to question how they perceive film, while at the same time explores the interaction of non-traditional characters. This film questions how we perceive art and film, people who are deaf and people who are dying of Alzheimer's. A world is created between these marginal characters that is funny, entertaining and heartbreaking, making you want to be a part of their lives, even if just for the short time they know each other.
Vision.. To create a story that is entertaining enough for 17 to 22 year olds, but with enough meat for everyone else by combining rough comedy with non-traditional characters. The film centers around two deaf brothers who have no fear of anything, smoking and drinking their way through the Arizona desert stealing what they need to get by. The center of the story is watching these two rough brothers as they take care of John Henry (Alzheimer's) who one minute gets them into trouble and then the next minute shits all over himself. The end product of the film will be a visual experience cutting in and out of sound with most of the communication based on sign language, motions, writings on paper and grunts from the old man.
